Los Angeles is not known as a "tech" town, but dig around just a little bit and you will find that a surprising number of companies and individuals doing interesting work in the sector are doing so from right here, and not in the Bay Area.

On Monday night, blogdowntown will be at Indie Desk hosting the first in series of monthly meetups aimed at building community among those who work with technology in and around Downtown.

The program will be informal: show up, get to know some interesting people and then learn (or teach!) new things via a series of five-minute lightning presentations. These talks could be about just about anything—the idea is for you to share just a few minutes about a technology or topic that you have been playing with or thinking about lately.

The idea is to be wide-ranging: I'm a software / web development guy, but I'd love to have folks talking about hardware or design or really sort of anything else tangentially related to technology and new media.

Meetups will take place every fourth Monday of the month, with doors opening at 7pm. Conveniently, that's the same time when parking becomes free on the street outside Indie Desk, which is located at 816 S. Broadway (between 8th and 9th). After September 26, future meetups will take place on October 24 and November 28.
