A pedestrian watches as a banner goes up for the April press conference held to announce the 377-room hotel tower planned to go across from L.A. Live.

Today is Monday, October 3. A report on the city's budget, a discussion of ways to encourage hotel development and a report on Art Walk safety rules are among items at City Hall this week.

MONDAY: Budget and Finance committee meets.

In CF 11-0600-S145, the City Administrative Officer gives his first update on the status of the 2011-2012 budget. Departmental salaries are currently $13 million over budget, all of that coming from Animal Services, Fire and Police departments.

TUESDAY: City Council meets, as does the Trade, Commerce and Tourism committee.

Economic development support for hotel development is the subject of CF 11-0966, which goes to Trade, Commerce and Tourism. The motion asks the Chief Legislative Analyst to report on potential ways in which the city might support projects like the Courtyard and Residence Inn planned for the Olympic North parcel across from L.A. Live.

Councilman Tom LaBonge feels the city has spent too much time worrying about the budget and not enough worrying about its aging infrastructure. He introduced CF 11-1635, which asks the Council to hold a devoted Infrastructure Day during January of 2012.

WEDNESDAY: Council meets, as do four committees.

Public Works committee is scheduled to hear an update on CF 11-1336, the motion that created the Art Walk Task Force and led to new rules for the monthly event.
