The orange and pink neon of the Hotel Clark sign makes a striking impression on Hill Street.

The long, strange journey of the Hotel Clark and its perpetual renovation may or may not be any closer to a resolution, but those traveling up or down Hill Street on Wednesday night got to pretend it was as they gazed at the building's grand neon.

The massive blade sign was restored in 2010, and has been turned on a handful of times since.

Renovation work on the 1914 hotel has been off-and-on since the mid-1990's. The 555-room hotel is currently owned by the Chetrit Group, a New York-based developer.

As has been the case for years, there is still work going on inside. In recent weeks, a permit was issued for the installation of a new elevator, plan check was completed for an application to remove two fire escapes and clearances were updated on an application for restaurant build-outs on the building's second floor.

When that work will lead to an open hotel, though, remains anyone's guess.
