DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — One 16-year-old is dead and another is under arrest after a rare daytime shooting in the heart of Downtown on Wednesday afternoon. The two, who police say were from rival gangs, had just left a continuation school class that was held at Angelus Plaza when one shot the other in the 3rd Street Tunnel, just west of 3rd and Hill. The shooting took place just after 3pm.
“According to witnesses, both the boys were members of rival gangs and a dispute developed during the school day,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, commanding officer of the Central Detective Division. “They took their fight off campus and squared off in the tunnel.”
The victim, who was hit multiple times in the torso, died several hours later at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center.
A passing LAPD officer saw the incident and arrested the armed shooter as he walked away from his downed victim. He has been booked for murder and is being held at the Eastlake Juvenile Hall.
The two were attending Central High School, an LAUSD continuation program that operates 28 branches across the city. Angelus Plaza, the facility the two had just left, is a senior housing development with nearly 1100 units.

This is a tragedy, however, could you make the line "The victim, who was hit multiple times in the torso. He died several hours later at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center." read instead as "The victim, who was hit multiple times in the torso, died several hours later at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center." ?

Apparently I had half-intended to do so... Thanks.

It's a shame that one died so young and the other will be in prison for the remainder of his life. I wish events like this would encourage kids to start non-violent gangs that foster poster growth in their communities instead of "population control," ignorance and drug trafficking.

make that "positive growth" - not "poster growth"

This is terrible.
There have also been multiple shootings in Hollywood recently. The Hollywood shootings/murders have been happening in the evening and mainly on weekends, but the concern is that its been happening with some frequency. There have been two murders on Hollywood Blvd within the span of a week and there is speculation that these were also gang related.
This is very concerning for the community at large.
