County workers can rest easy: a deal has been reached to keep Starbucks operating inside the Civic Center Park through at least 2022.

An extension of the coffee company's existing concession agreement went to the County Board of Supervisors this morning. The deal gives Starbucks responsibility for an estimated $500,000 of tenant improvements inside the new 1,195 square foot space currently under construction near the reconfigured Arthur J. Wil Memorial Fountain.

Starbucks will stay open in its existing space until completion of the new building. A pair of five year extensions would allow the deal to continue through 2032.

The Seattle-based firm is not guaranteed to be the only brewer on the Civic Park site. While the new deal gives the company exclusive rights to coffee bar operations between Grand Avenue and Hill Street, but plans for the park include a concession area nearer to City Hall that will go out for bid and could go to a coffee business.

Work on the $56-million Civic Center Park project is expected to be completed in June 2012.
