The inmate died early this morning after allegedly being beaten over the weekend by two other inmates.

A male inmate at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Downtown died Tuesday after allegedly being beaten over the weekend by a fellow inmate, according to a statement from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

The inmate was transported from the jail to the LA County USC Medical Center.

The LAist reports that the man was in his mid-20s and was declared dead at roughly 1:40 a.m. today, according to Coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Sheriff homicide detectives were then dispatched to the hospital to investigate the death.

The case is under investigation and the man's name will be released once family members are notified.

The Twin Towers facility stretches over 10 acres of land and includes two towers, a medical services building and the Los Angeles County Medical Center Jail Ward.
