DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The Metro Board of Directors are scheduled to meet this week and next, to consider new hefty contracts that would enable them to purchase new rail cars,
These new cars are expected to be wider than older models and would include extra room for passengers with bikes. They would be used on the Crenshaw Line, Blue Line, Expo Line and Gold Line Foothill Extension.
The Source reports that Metro staff is recommending a $299 million contract with Kinkisharyo International LLC. The contract would include purchasing at least 78 new light rail cars and creating a new rail car production plan in the U.S. This new facility would create new domestic jobs "totaling nearly $98 million in wages and benefits."
