Although most Downtowners are used to walking their neighborhood's streets, the Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID) is pointing residents to the routes that may burn the most calories and help get your heart rate up.

DCBID released a list of four Downtown routes they coined as offering "unique scenery" -- for lunch breaks, afternoon walks or weekend explorations.

A BID representative said creating the list was more of an art than a science, but that they considered factors such as concentration of office buildings, dining options along the routes and variety in elevation, when determining the workout walks.

1."Bunker Hill Burn" (1.5 miles): Aimed at those who work at the Wells Fargo Center or California Plaza, this route starts right outside on the office steps, then heads down to Grand Avenue (possibly via the Bunker Hill Steps) and to 8th Street. The DCBID says: "On the way back, walk up the same stairs to get those butt crunches in."

2."Cultural Corridor Crunch" (1.5 miles): For the police administrators, city workers or Los Angeles Times employees, the BID suggests heading down Spring Street toward 8th Street and back, then maybe making a loop around City Hall Park for extra fitness points.

3."Civic-Historic Stroll" (2 miles): Begin this walk near the corner of 1st and Grand before heading downhill on Grand Avenue to check out what's new at MOCA and watch the visitors take photos in front of the Disney Concert Hall. Keep going all the way to 8th Street before climbing back up the incline. The DCBID says: "On your return, you’ll get the calf-crunching workout by walking back up Bunker Hill."

4."Speed Walker’s Loop" (1.5 miles): Start near 7th and Figueroa streets and head north on Fig to 5th Street. Then cross over to Flower and head south to Olympic Blvd. Make a U-turn to head back up Figueroa, taking in the neon lights of L.A. Live before heading back to work.
