This will be the tenth year for the X Games in Los Angeles.

It might be common to see motorcycles, skateboards, and bicycles flying through the air in Downtown this weekend as the annual extreme sports competition, X Games, will be in town.

Over 100,000 people are expected to attend over the course of the weekend, according to Grace Coryell, X Games event publicity coordinator.

A new feature distinctive to this year's games is the Hot Wheels Double Dare. This 66-foot-tall track, reminiscent of the child's toy for which it is named, is made for two cars to race on it at once, Coryell explained. The drivers will attempt to break a world record for racing two vehicles through the vertical loops.

The neon orange track will be erected at Gilbert Lindsay Plaza in front of the LA Convention Center.

From June 28 to July 1 athletes from around the world will compete for medals and bragging rights at the Staples Center, LA Live, Nokia Theatre, and LA Convention Center.

Ryan Sheckler, Travis Pastrana, and Alexis Sablone are just a few of the daredevils who will compete this weekend. Athletes will challenge each other in BMX, motocross, skateboarding and rally car events.

A benefit for the V Foundation, a cancer research organization, will kick off the X Games event on Wednesday.

People who do not have tickets to the games can still attend X Fest, a free, outdoor event that will feature X Games sponsor booths, athlete autograph signings and more, according to Coryell. X Fest will be located on Chick Hearn Court between the Staples Center and LA Live.

Those not attending the games are encouraged to avoid Downtown this weekend, according to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation.

The following main road closures can be expected:

Figueroa between Pico and Olympic

Pico between Figueroa and LA Live Way

12th between Flower and Figueroa

11th between Flower and Figueroa

Closures should begin as early as 7 P.M. on Friday and last until 5 A.M. on Monday, LADOT said.

This is the third year that X Games will be based solely in Downtwon L.A. Before, it was split between the Home Depot Center in Carson and the Staples Center.

"It's a lot better to have all of the venues located centrally together without having to hop in the car and get in traffic to go to the next venue." Coryell said. "Downtown makes for a better all-around experience for fans."
