What began as a pop-up restaurant in Venice and Silver Lake has turned permanent on Broadway in Downtown L.A. Alma, a restaurant with a self-described "farmer's market fresh menu," officially opened at the beginning of last week.

“Broadway is the perfect location for our project because it is in the heart of the sustainable development in Los Angeles," said Head Chef Ari Taymor in a statement. "We get to be part of a new wave of artists and craftspeople who want to leave things better than they found them."

Alma only serves dinner and is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The restaurant only holds 35 people and although walk-ins are welcome, if it's the $80 tasting menu you're after, reservations are required.

Menu items range from meats to seafoods and vegan dishes, and are expected to change daily or weekly, depending on the availability of the ingredients.

“Our menu is an interpretation of our memories of food in L.A. combined with inspiration from my mentors and the farmers who grow our local food,” said Taymor.

Alma’s current menu includes starters such as squash blossom beignets and onion chicharrones. Main dishes include beet gazpacho with crab and fennel, seared mackerel with quinoa and a kale salad with cheddar and torn bread.

Most appetizers are $4 to $6 while entrees span from $9 all the way up to $24 for the suckling pig with corn and garlic.

Alma is located at 952 S. Broadway
