DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Several couples braved the sweltering heatwave, took to the stage and salsa danced at Pershing Square's weekly Lunchtime Concert series, which kicked off Wednesday.
The Susie Hansen Latin Band also seemed unfazed by the upwards of 90-degree temperature, as they sang, shimmied and joked with the audience of about 75 attendees.
Several tents filled with tables and chairs provided shade for some of the crowd, while in the background, Pershing Square's weekly farmers' market turned the park into a bustling marketplace.
Audience member Donald Jones, who traveled from Baldwin Hills especially for the event, said this was about his 7th year attending the Lunchtime Concert series. He said he likes the atmosphere of the combined farmers' market and concert, where he can get a snack and then enjoy the show. His only complaint: the heat.
"Maybe they can put in some mist sprayers if it's going to be this hot during the summer," Jones suggested.
The Lunchtime Concert series will take place every Wednesday at noon and will run until August 15. The following musicians are scheduled to perform:
July 18: Jim Bianco
July 25: Rebel Light
August 1: Alejandro Gonzalez Gomez
August 8: Brasil Brazil
August 15: Pershing Square Community Chorus "One Hit Wonders"
