103 degree Downtown temperature breaks 103-year-old record

The rooftop pool at The Eastern looks out over Downtown.

The Mercury topped 103 degrees Saturday Downtown as scorching heat sent Southern Californians looking for relief.

The previous record for the hottest day Downtown on Sept. 15th was 102 degrees, which was set in 1909 and was tied in the disco days of 1979.

Yesterday Downtown had a triple-digit record as well when temps hit 100 degrees.

Sunday should also be a hot one. As we reported earlier this summer if your place doesn't have a pool, the Standard will let you use theirs for a small fee.

A cheaper option is to splash in the Grand Park fountain, especially if you haven't broken it in yet.

So do tell, how did you beat the heat today?

As I recall, the last two summers were unusually cool overall - and I'm not certain if we even hit over 100 degrees so far this year or even last year - or reached 103 during either summer, though I could easily be wrong.

And - does anyone know the temperature the Standard keeps it pool at?
