Downtown's new City Target will be open for 26 hours for Black Friday shopping.

Downtown's new City Target only opened last month, but their store manager says they are more than ready for the upcoming Black Friday shop-a-thon. The 73,000-square-foot retailer will open at 9 p.m. on Thursday and stay open until 11 p.m. on Friday -- joining the ranks of stores throughout the country that are opening earlier to entice holiday shoppers.

Manager Simone Tatro says “it's definitely our highest traffic day of the year,” adding that almost all of the 260 Target employees will be working a shift over the 26-hour time span the store will be open.

She also said that the approximately six-week-old Target has been exceeding sales expectations by nearly 30 percent.

"The guests have definitely voted with their wallets that they’re happy we here," she said.

Higher sales means the store will be hiring additional seasonal help, said Tatro, and that the store's had to receive additional shipments of goods to keep products stocked.

Tatro said they've already received feedback from shoppers as to what is missing from the store and if enough people ask for a specific item, Target will start carrying it. As of now, the manager said upcoming additions include Spanish-language books and DVDs, heavy winter coats and electronic adapters -- mostly for tourists visiting Downtown on the weekends.

Tatro said that because this is their first Thanksgiving open they're not sure what to expect, but she's hoping at least 300 people will be lined up outside the store's Figueroa location when they open at 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Target will be one of many retailers across the U.S. this year who are turning Black Friday into Black Thursday: Opening earlier and for longer to attract more holiday shoppers. According to the National Retail Federation, up to 147 million people plan to shop either online or in stores over the Black Friday weekend.
