Angel City Brewery

Angel City will hold an open house tonight from 4 to 8 p.m. The brewery came under new ownership in 2011.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Angel City Brewery, which came under new ownership last year, is hosting a public open house today from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. to introduce their new products and facility.

"We’re ready to open our doors — well, sort of," says a statement on the brewery's website. "We’ve been working hard at pulling everything together to open for you all, and honestly, we’re too excited to wait much longer."

The retail store will be open, there will be tours of the space as well as samples of their current beers. This Downtown brewery was founded by Michael Bowe in 1997, moved to DTLA in 2010 and bought by Alan Newman and his company Alchemy and Science in 2011.

Last year, Newman released his first beer under the Angel City name -- a Belgian-style white ale he temporarily called Test Beer B and served on draft at a few select DTLA spots.

Angel City's new brewmaster, Dieter Foerstner, came to L.A. from Arizona where he worked previously for Gordon Biersch.

“I’m thrilled to join the brewing community in this city,” he said in a statement last year. “There is a great collection of people who are passionate about making and drinking excellent beer in LA, and there is so much more we can do."

Friday's open house is only a teaser of things to come. The new brewery, which is slated to include a bar/meetinghouse, brewery, sampling tours, and event space, will soon be open to the public but only for limited hours. Later this year the brewery is expected to expand their hours of operation.

The brewery is advertising their current brews as being the Angeleno IPA with "big, bold, grapefruit hop flavors," and the Eureka! Wit, a "golden-hued, citrusy, light bodied, full flavored" California white ale.
