DTLA dining updates: Gluten-free burgers, French entrees and a new Fatburger
The cranberry and avocado burger is one of The Counter's new items from their gluten-free menu.
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Every week is a busy one for Downtown's food scene with new bars, restaurants and menu changes popping up faster than we can keep track.
But we're going to try.
Mignon wine bar on 6th Street continues to expand its offerings with the introduction of a new entree menu to their standard cheese and charcuterie plates.
This downtown L.A. wine bar opened in 2010 and since then has experimented with its formatting. Focusing on beer, wine and small plates of meat and cheese, Mignon introduced a Sunday pop-up shop last fall that served up sausages on the sidewalk. Now every Friday and Saturday from midnight to 2:30 a.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m., this pop-up dubbed Knackig dishes out brats and beer.
Most recently, Mignon debuted a new extended menu of French entrees, sides and desserts. The wine bar's $29 prix fixe menu includes three courses of dishes that include short ribs, macaroni gratin and paté.
Prices for a la carte items range from $8 for a Smoked Fish Plate or Okame Spinach with Pea Tendrils; to $18 for Pork Shoulder Stew and $6 for Nuts and Olives of Macaroni Gratin.
The Counter, an international chain located inside the Roosevelt building, boasted more than 300,000 different burger combinations when it first opened in May 2012.
Now, this burger bar has announced it's adding an entire gluten-free menu to help create "healthier options for niche health-conscious customers." More specifically, this means gluten-free buns, a gluten-free beer and gluten-free milkshakes.
In addition to the create-your-own burger options, The Counter has announced new pre-designed dishes with an emphasis on healthy. These include a cranberry and avocado turkey burger with carrot and mixed greens and a bison bowl with a bison burger patty served on top of spinach, carrot and salsas.
And for those of you who are overwhelmed by The Counter's hundreds of thousands of options, a new Fatburger has opened in DTLA on Figueroa near the Staples Center.
This longstanding chain has been around for a half a century, and their menu includes basic options like chicken sandwiches, turkey burgers and veggie burgers, and beef burgers that can be ordered in size small to XXXL.
