The crash occurred around 5:10 a.m. near 5th Street and Broadway.

A Metro bus and a tow truck collided in Downtown near the intersection of 5th Street and Broadway, sending the truck crashing through a 7-Eleven convenience store at about 5:10 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the L.A. Fire Department, a man working inside the store sustained minor injuries and was treated on site. The drivers of both vehicles, a 35-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, were also hurt and transported to local hospitals. The woman later died and the man was being treated for serious injuries.

Metro has released a statement about the woman's death: "Metro is saddened to learn of the passing of one of our family members this morning as a result of a horrific accident in downtown Los Angeles. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bus operator’s family and friends during this difficult time. A thorough investigation of the accident is underway."

NBC L.A. reports that when the collision occurred, the vehicles sheared off a fire hydrant, sending a geyser of water into the air and flooding the intersection. The bus driver was found "face-down in water" that gushed from the hydrant.

KPCC reports that the crash crushed the front of the bus, mangled the cab of the truck and left a gaping hole in the building.

LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said the LAPD will be handling the investigation of the crash from here on out.
