March Art Walk Wrap-Up
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — I didn’t spend quite as much time on the Downtown Art Walk yesterday as I have in the past few months, but I still managed to make it to nine galleries (I think… I lose count) so I consider that a successful night. I walked around about half the time with Sean, Caryn and their two dogs, and Caryn’s posted a short write-up over on art.blogging.la Instead of trying to be exhaustive, lets look at some of the highlights:
-
LA Center for Digital Art had an opening last night for the top forty entries submitted to their juried show. The gallery of winning pieces is online, so check that out. I really like the work I’ve seen at LACDA, and I’m still just in love with the quality that comes out of their big printer.
-
Iron Eye Gallery was having their show on the mezzanine level of the Spring Arts building. They went a little upscale with their logistics. ID’s were being checked at the door, hands stamped, and then a caterer was running the bar. It was a little odd to have an empty room (art-wise) in between the two halves of the show, but that’s just an oddly laid out building, so there’s only so much they can do.
-
626 Gallery has a show of Brazilian photography by Amie Potsic. Their invitation describes it as “vibrant and passionate”, and I have to agree. I love photographs with deeply saturated colors, and these had a lot to provide in that department.
-
Gallery 727 has a show by GRONK that’s half art and half displays of several decades of collected objects.
-
The gallery that’s either Milla Angelina (if you believe the sign inside) or The Hive (if you believe the art walk site) had a cool show with some three-dimensional paintings / sculptures? (I don’t know… what do you call it when you put little figures and lights and such inside a “painting”?) In any case, interesting stuff.
-
sixspace has a show by Laura Mosquera that features the only paintings I’ve ever seen include glitter glue. I thought they were fun.
Go ahead and get your calendars set for April 14th. You won’t regret it.
