LATC Round Five: Back to City Council

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — As I reported last Thursday, the Los Angeles Theatre Center is once again on the City Council agenda. The Council is set to vote on committee recommendations to start negotiations and an expedited solicitation process to determine who would bring the best package of operation and renovation to the LATC table. As usual, I’ll get happenings up as close to live as I can, and then I’ll wrap the story up after the action settles.

10:34 – No motion to hold public hearing. No specials. And so, within three minutes of the meeting opening, the item’s done.

Live Blogged Notes

9:40 -- Bad start to this whole story. I was just getting ready to head to City Hall for the 10am Council meeting. I sat down on the couch to put my shoes on and felt/heard something funny. My pants ripped right along the seam of the back left pocket. I'm now in different pants, and ready to go on.

10:07 -- Someday I'll learn that a 10am Council meeting doesn't actually mean 10am. The various support staff are here, but none of the Councilmembers have yet entered the room. Actually Padilla walked in just as I was typing that. Now Garcetti. Padilla just thanked Eric for his punctuality. The audience is light today as well. I would have to imagine that most probably think as I do that this will not be an item long dwelled upon today.

10:22 -- Tom Gilmore just showed up and grabbed an agenda, but not a speaker card. We're still a few Councilmembers short of a quorum.

10:29 -- There's a reporter interviewing the artistic director (I think?) from Will & Company. I would love to see this issue get a little more traction in the press. And no, we still haven't started.

10:31 -- Councilman Padilla is opening the meeting. Ten members are present. We started with a pledge of allegiance.

10:34 -- No motion to hold public hearing. No specials. And so, within three minutes of the meeting opening, the item's done.
