Immigration Rally Flexes LA Transit System

I don’t think it’s possible to get a reliable count on the number of people who came Downtown for today’s immigration protest. LAPD is saying upwards of 100,000 people, and I’m sure that’s correct. How far upwards, though, is anyone’s guess.

The Red and Blue lines served as catalysts for today’s event, carrying completely packed trains to Downtown for a large portion of the morning. For much of the time it was literally impossible to get onto a train headed toward Downtown. They were just already too full. Nobody else could fit.

Dave Bullock (eecue) was there and took a bunch of photos. He’s posted on blogging.la and put his pictures on his site.

Though it may seem counter-intuitive, open immigration is the only way to secure the border.

Today, many american citizens ignore the undocumented status of aliens, becase they assume that those aliens are honest folk who simply want to make a living. If the US lets such folk in legally, with proper documentation, people would know that any other undocumented people are not kosher.

Imagine that no honest person would want to cross into the US illegally. As a consequence, citizens would readily report the few crooks who do. The only way to make the border safe is to allow for a large amounts of well-controlled, legal immigration. The only other way I can think of is to make Mexico the 51st state, and then patrol their – much shorter – southern border.

To my mind, the main change should be to grant amnesty to the 11 million Mexicans who are here, and then allow about 2 million to come over legally every year. The consequence of this will be to make the U.S. a safer place.

I was down there on Sunday, and the 500,000 figure stated in the news articles seems much more accurate than the LAPD figure. I took a bunch of photos too:

Making Mexico the 51st state is an EXCELLENT idea! That nation’s wealth and great standard of living puts the U.S. to shame. And unlike this country, Mexico boasts a relatively low crime rate.

Yes, I wrote a song years ago called “Make Mexico a State”. If we wish to have a global empire why not be honest about it. We would have to treat the other countries with more repect if we allowed them to vote to become States.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would want a country as backwards as Mexico, as a state. They say that the crime rate is low there, well the crime rate has increased do to the increase in the population of mexicans that illegally cross the boarder. They should increase the guards on the border and let them shooot to kill every illegal that crosses the border. Immigrants should have to pay all the taxes and all there medicade. They should all learn english and abolish spanish just like we did to the indians and also give american names as we also did to the indians. If they don’t like it tough!!
