Tonight at the Regent: Iraq for Sale
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Tonight (Tuesday) Old Bank DVD returns a little theater life to the Historic Core, exhibiting ”Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers” at the Regent Theater on Main street. Ed has all the details over at View from a Loft. Show starts at 7:30pm, and afterward several people involved in the film will be on-hand for discussion. Tickets are $5.
Tom Gilmore recently acquired the lease to the Regent and is planning to turn it into an event space for concerts and screenings. As far as I’m aware this will be the first thing to happen in there since he took over control. The Regent isn’t opulent like the Broadway theatres, but it’ll be a great space for helping to activate the Downtown scene.
DLANC has the first meeting of its new board tonight at 6:30, but I’m hoping to head over and catch most of the action afterward.
Comments
I'm going just to check out the inside of the place, as scary as it looks on the outside. I will enjoy the film also.

# on Oct.10.2006 AT 07:17 PMIt's not as spiffy as the Orpheum, but with some good creative event programming and maybe a snack bar up front, this can be a neighborhood centerpiece, perhaps make it like a Greenwich village type of community.
This street is not as dead as it looks and the more pedestrian activity the safer it can become, and I'll bring my pepper spray.
