Keep LA Beautiful Kickoff Eric Richardson

As I mentioned yesterday, this morning was the kickoff for Keep Los Angeles Beautiful, a local effort connected to the Keep America Beautiful campaign. The event also served as the national kickoff for the annual Great American Clean Up. Seeing as the ceremonies were held within 200 feet of the Times, it’s fitting that they have a write-up online.

The festivities included performances by local school groups, the LAUSD All-District Honor Band, Common Vision, among others. As advertised, Hillary Clinton was the featured guest.

After the City Hall event volunteers were loaded into buses and taken around the City to do service projects.

I took a bunch of photos and have put those worthy of public viewing in this set. I have to point out this shot in particular, featuring the winner of the unofficial Kickoff Costume Contest.

The event was a little more showy than actual work taking place. It was like a political rally, but the audience was quite sparse. The chinese assembled on the South Lawn of City Hall for a demonstration against the Chinese government (not a meditation event as you noted in your picture's caption) seemed like a larger crowd than was there for the City's event.

PS I like that you captured "Melrose" Larry Green's outfit.
