Sign of Progress

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The sign on Downtown’s new Ralph’s Fresh Fare store went up yesterday. In an even more exciting step, the fencing blocking off the sidewalks on 9th and Hope has been removed and pedestrian passage around the store is unimpeded for the first time.
I can’t say that the Ralphs is going to get me to give up my love of grocery delivery, but it’ll certainly be a nice thing to have open in the neighborhood. Everything I’ve heard points to an opening date around July 6th, but I haven’t heard of any official ceremonies set yet.
It was early 2005 when construction got started, and just this January that Ralph’s got the keys to the store.

There’s Grand Central if I forget an onion or a green pepper for a recipe. And there’s no substitute for delivery for big stuff if you live downtown. But won’t it be nice, when you decide not to go out but to eat at home, to take the Subway or the Blue Line to Ralph’s?
July 6th? Have they even hired employees yet?
Shawn: Someone’s been stocking the non-perishables. I don’t know who, but apparently someone’s working.
Any word on the hours? Could it be 24?
If the Ralph’s in Westwood could be 24/7, I don’t see how this one couldn’t either.
I saw elsewhere on the net that the opening date has been pushed back to July 16.
Notice the postcard they sent out didn’t have a date on it. It just said “opening soon.”
They better not have a grocery strike.
I called the socal Ralph’s regional office in the 310 and the lady put me on hold and came back with July 16th she said it was firm. I have my granny cart ready!

I am SERIOUSLY excited about this. I hope it has decent hours.
