Bringing Back a Broadway Sign

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The letters for the Globe Theatre returned to the top of the historical marquee, this time in a deep red. You can also spot new neon tubing bypassing some of the original sockets, giving some hope that a neon sign is returning to Broadway. It’s not as dramatic as the red carpet reopening that had Pepe Aguilar welcome the Million Dollar Theatre theater back into life last week, but it’s far better looking than the Globe’s previous yellow letters––or just plain missing.

In 2006 the Globe reopened as Club 740, placing its entrance on the alley side and ignoring the Broadway facade and the Garland Building – the office structure that fronts Broadway. The club has had a controversial few years, including violence and interesting political connections.

Is there additional remodeling being done to make it operational or is the sign purely cosmetic?

Ask the salespeople at the Chapman Lofts what kind of discount they are getting for units that neighbor the 740 Club. Did they install bulletproof glass in those windows? Otherwise, ask for that before closing escrow. Perhaps with armor and some soundproofing, they might get $50k for that second floor corner unit on the alley next to the club's entrance. But in this market, offer $10k and see what happens...

Here's hoping the owners restore the formerly grand Morsoco Theatre (now the Globe) and take it out of the hands of the club owner. This would be the PERFECT mid-sized venue for road shows and local productions!

hey metro-local, if the window pane is bullet-proof, does that mean i don't have to bother asking about double-pane windows? or do i still need that for the insulation and sound-proofing?
