Memorial Day weekend in DTLA: Beers, yoga and outdoor everything


If you're not bbq-ing on your own rooftop this long weekend, there's plenty of public parties in DTLA to get you in the holiday spirit. Events start Friday with Grand Park's free yoga, and continue through Monday.

Skid Row shelter to be named Calif. Nonprofit of the Year


The Downtown Women's Center has been in Skid Row for 35 years, providing shelter, educational programs, meals and medical services. On Wednesday, the organization will be named Nonprofit of the Year by the Governor's office.

30 new DTLA surveillance cameras set to launch at the end of the month


LAPD's Central Division is working with a contractor to install cameras in Skid Row, the Fashion District and the Historic Core. Police Capt. Horace Frank said all 30 of them should be up-and-running by the end of the month.

Run buy a father and son, Badmaash restaurant is now serving Indian street food in DTLA. Menu items include the Spicy Lamb Burger, Crispy Tamarind Glazed Pork Belly and Chicken Tikka Masala Poutine.

Urban Outfitters to open in Rialto Theatre, restore marquee

Although there were murmurings last year of the retailers move to Downtown, Urban Outfitters has made it official; they will be the newest retailer to set up shop on Broadway. Councilman José Huizar's made an official announcement yesterday.

Metro releases four possible plans for Union Station redesign; asks for public input

Metro is constructing a long term plan for Union Station that will include adding a new concourse, making way for the high speed rail and making the station more accesible to its commuters.

Grand Park kicks off summer with musical 'Sunday Sessions'

Downtown's summer calendar is beginning to fill up, as Grand Park announces a monthly Sunday performance series featuring DJs, a full bar and food trucks. It's B-Y-O picnic supplies and the party goes until 10 p.m.

Wednesday is the annual May Day parade that winds through downtown L.A. in celebration of International Workers' Day. This massive demonstration has become a forum for many causes; from LGBT rights to the Occupy movement.

'Etsy'-type flea market, food fest to begin in Historic Core this summer


Starting in July, a monthly flea market featuring food trucks and local designers will take over four parking lots in DTLA. Organizers say there will be up to 400 vendors selling new and vintage goods.

Pazzo Gelato continues to head east with new DTLA location
