New craft brewer to release first beer after 'gypsy brewing' at DTLA location

Los Angeles Ale Works is debuting their first commercial beer at six bars starting this weekend, including Downtown's Far Bar and the Spring Street Smoke House. The brewers are currently making beer out of the Ohana Brewery in DTLA.

Staples Center not going veg for upcoming Morrissey concert, but adding no-meat options

Longtime vegetarian Morrissey will be playing at Downtown's Staples Center on March 1 and as part of his agreement, the massive venue has agreed to offer additional vegetarian dishes for the event.

LA's traffic lights now synced; aims to increase air quality, decrease traffic

As of today, all of L.A.'s 4,398 traffic signals are part of the same automated traffic system. According to the mayor's office, this synchronization will help decrease average travel time for commuters.

A few weeks after Metro beefed up their bike etiquette signs aboard trains, they have installed new decals on some of the platforms at the 7th/Metro Center Station to help better direct the flow of traffic.

Last year's ill-fated Beerathon plans to return to LA in 2013

The 26-stop, beer-drinking marathon planned for Downtown last year was cancelled because of a dispute with the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC). Now, event organizers have announced the sudsy marathon will return to LA in 2013.

DTLA parents win approval to establish Metro Charter Elementary School

The LAUSD Board of Education voted to allow DTLA parents to continue their push for a charter elementary school in Downtown's South Park neighborhood. The new school would address the growing number of children living in the area.

New Wilshire Grand to include 'sky lobby,' high-tech elevators and one-of-a-kind helipad

The $1 billion Wilshire Grand project is slated to open in 2017 and will be the tallest building in Los Angeles (if you include its spire). This office building and hotel will have button-less elevators and a 70th floor lobby.

Spring Street parklets now open for sitting, foosball and stationary cycling

These mini-parks located on Spring Street include artificial grass, wooden planters full of succulents and plenty of bench and chair seating. There are also two stationary bikes intended for exercise, as well as a foosball table.
