Odd Treehouse at City Hall East

So, anyone know what the really funny looking treehouse is over at City Hall East? I was biking down 1st yesterday headed to the Little Tokyo Office Depot when this structure caught my attention enough to pull off the street and take a picture. Knowing this town, I’m going to have to guess that this has something to do with filming. There was no signage...

Camille's sidewalk cafe at 7th / Hope

Frequent commenter David Kennedy emailed me the other day commenting on how glad he was to see some of the infill development going on Downtown in ground floor spaces that have long been vacant. In particular he noticed the Roy’s Restaurant going in at 8th & Figueroa and the cafe-type eateries going in around the 7th/Metro Red Line station. You may...

Weird Starting Point

I had a few minutes to kill yesterday afternoon up on Bunker Hill, so I circled down from Disney Hall to check out the construction site for the Colburn School expansion. I was a bit confused by what I saw. I’ll grant you that I don’t know much about construction, but it seems a little odd to me for a window to be put in before the building. Usually...

I just read a press release talking about how the Norman Lear Center at USC is participating in the “State of Play Virtual Public Space Design Competition” at the State of Play conference to be held over the next few days in New York City. Another press release gives an overview of the competition: As part of this year’s conference, taking...

City Council yesterday agreed to the subsidy plan put together for the convention center hotel to be part of the LA Live! project. The LA Times covers that story today, writing that the Bonaventure plans to keep fighting. The Bonaventure’s owners plan to pursue an existing lawsuit against the city challenging the deal as well as take the matter to the...

Gehry Mosaic

Local blogger hexod.us (who also contributes photos to the blogdowntown pool at left) posted yesterday about some cool tools for manipulating flickr photos. His first example image is the pictured mosaic of Disney Hall images, which I think came out great. Nice cameras are very fun toys.
