The blogdowntown Picnic
A Perfect Picnic Afternoon
By Eric Richardson — May 28, 2007 — 5 Comments
Thanks to everyone who gave out to yesterday's blogdowntown picnic and made it such a great success. Just over two dozen people turned out yesterday for our first picnic event and enjoyed amazing weather and some really good pizza from Los Angeles Pizza Company. It was a chance to enjoy a park that gets too little attention from those of us Downtown and to put some faces to names that we typically only see in print.
This picnic went from raw idea to actual event in a little under three weeks. There are definitely things I would plan a little better next time, but I couldn't be happier with how this first go went yesterday.
The take-away from the afternoon was that this shouldn't be just a one-time thing. We'll definitely do it again, perhaps with another picnic in July.
Finally, we'd particularly like to thank Councilwoman Jan Perry for taking the time to come out and picnic with us. It says a lot for how much she cares about Downtown that she'd make the time on a Sunday to hang out with us bloggers.

Four More Hours Until the Picnic
By Eric Richardson — May 27, 2007 — 2 Comments
Only a few more hours until the blogdowntown picnic. As you can see, I'm making up a batch of chocolate chip cookies to bring up to the park. The first batch is cooling right now, and even if I do say so myself: they're good.
If you haven't yet planned on coming out, just make it a spur of the moment thing. Grab some take-out and bring it up to the park to meet some of the people who live and work around you.
Check out more details or a map of where we'll be. We'll see you there.
Less Than 48 Hours Until the Picnic
By Eric Richardson — May 25, 2007
Forty-eight hours from now I'll be up in Elysian Park for the blogdowntown picnic, and hopefully you'll be up there as well. Everyone's invited to come hang out and meet Downtowners (and friends of Downtown) as we enjoy a park that gets far too little recognition.
A major goal of having the picnic up in Elysian Park is to try and bring more awareness to a spot that should be treasured by those of us here in Downtown. At close to 600 acres, the park offers a great place to relax, picnic, or even enjoy a game of frisbee golf. The Downtown views from the park's overlooks are some of the best you're going to find. And yet parts of the park suffer from a lack of attention and care.
We're still saying to bring your own food and drink, but we're also going to have some great pizza thanks to the Los Angeles Pizza Company. They're closed on Sundays, but Oscar's opening up just to make some pies for us and then he'll be joining us at the picnic.
So come out, check out the park and meet some cool people.
May 27th. 2pm. Elysian Park. Bring your own food and drink. Map.
You can read more about the park in these Elysian Park posts.
Picnic Spot Set; Come Join Us Sunday
By Eric Richardson — May 22, 2007 — 3 Comments
Plans are really coming together for Sunday's blogdowntown picnic. After several scouting trips we've decided the festivities will take place at the Elysian Fields picnic area, a spot with a great view of Downtown. Honestly, how can you argue with this view?
If you missed Friday's announcement, here's the basic run-down:
May 27th.
2pm.
Elysian Park.
Elysian Fields Picnic Area.
Bring your own food and drink.
Meet people.
Explore the park.
Even Downtown Councilwoman Jan Perry has said she's planning to come out, so how could you not be there?
Here's a map of the picnic area and the route from Downtown. We'll be posting more about the picnic and the park as the days get closer, but definitely make your plans now to come join us. — Continued Inside...
May 27th: The blogdowntown Picnic
By Eric Richardson — May 18, 2007 — 6 Comments
On Sunday, May 27th, blogdowntown is inviting all of you to a picnic. Dave Bullock and Ed Fuentes will be co-hosting the event, which we're holding up on the hill in Elysian Park. It's a chance to get out, meet some of the people you may only know via names and comments, and also explore a park that's so close to Downtown and yet largely ignored.
We're still putting together the exact details, but here's what you need to know for now:
May 27th.
2pm.
Elysian Park.
Bring your own food and drink.
Meet people.
Explore the park.
Keep an eye on http://blogdowntown.com/picnic for the most up to date information, including exactly where in the park we're going to do this.
Also, if you want to help out in pulling this off feel free to drop me an email at e@blogdowntown.com.
