Breaking News: New Downtown Residents Affluent

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Unless I'm making things up, the Downtown News article titled "Meet Your New, Rich Neighbors just posted today and doesn't appear in the print edition. It contains the results of a survey by DCBID given to residents of new residential complexes. The results aren't exactly surprising, but as the article says, "The study provides hard proof of the often-stated assumption that the rush of new housing in Downtown is changing the face of the community."

I haven't looked through the report yet, but if you're interested it is available from the LA Economic Development Corporation documents page as a PDF.

Update (8:51pm): LA Business Journal also has coverage of the report, and their piece includes job numbers: 201,000 private sector jobs, and nearly 250,000 government jobs.

Update (10:06pm): Slightly dampening the government jobs count:

Note: All city, county and Los Angeles Unified School District employees will be "counted" as Downtown, where the payroll operations are located.

LAUSD has 30,000 teachers and 80,000 total employees. I'd guess upward of 50k of those are nowhere near Downtown.
