Grand Ave. Authority Approves Plans

The LA Business Journal is running a news piece this afternoon saying that the Grand Avenue Authority has approved Related’s master plan for Grand Ave. The LABJ piece pretty closely echoes a press release issued by the Authority.

I’ll confess that I haven’t followed Grand Ave. stuff very closely, so it’s sort of news to me that Frank Gehry is on the master plan team.

My question is when the old State Building site that engulfs the block between 1st, Hill, 2nd, and Broadway is going to get included in redevelopment plans. That’s one ugly abandoned building.

You're not keeping a close enough track of things in downtown! The old state building at 1st, Broadway and Hill has been mentioned in various articles over the past few years as being sold to the federal government for the proposed new federal courthouse.

They're always talking about new courthouses but never actually getting around to starting to build them. And meanwhile the building just sits there, getting uglier. I figured someone had it in plans for something, since it wasn't one of the plots in the Grand Ave. plans. -e;
