Sweat-Free Shopping
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — American Apparel has been in the news plenty over the past year, often touting their slogan of "Sweatshop free, made in Downtown LA." Good stuff, though not really cheap. (And I still haven't seen their 5th Street store open, even though there are clothes on the racks.)
There are other ways for sweatshop-free shopping Downtown, though, and via Green LA Girl I just found out about the Garment Worker Center and its "Sweat-Free Shopping Day" on December 2nd. Check the site for more details, but the basic gist is that they're going to tell you about themselves and have a "fair with union-made, cooperative-made, and fair trade products." It is the gift-giving season, after all.
