Spiderman Leaves a Parting Gift

A Nice Parting Touch Eric Richardson

Too many Downtown film shoots come in, disrupt life and then go about their merry way. Sure, they pay their location fees to the building owners and they're well within their rights to do it, but it's not a good way to win friends in the neighborhood.

Spiderman III has been filming in the alley for roughly a week. They're all done now and finishing packing up, but this morning sitting at my door was the little envelope pictured at left with two Laemmle passes in it.

For a film with a budget the size of Spiderman III's buying a couple hundred passes is nothing, but it's a good little touch in my opinion.

Yes, there are major issues with Downtown filming that need to be addressed (mostly revolving around parking and street closures), but just having these shoots do something little for the people who have to put up with them is a nice start.

It would be cool if some of the other companies left freebies like this.

Did you ever get to see what the whole 'fireball' thing was about? I tried to catch a glimpse a few times, but I never saw anyone in a Spiderman suit.

Ive lived more than 25 years in downtown and one one even bother coming down here, until recently. Now people come and move here and complaint...geez!

David, you're right. Let's just turn the clock back to 25 years ago so that it can be just like it was when you moved there. In that idyllic time, there was no room left for improvement. Ah, the good old days.

sto: No, I never did. I figure they must have just had to scrap that part, perhaps due to the rain.
