Go Tell Various People What You Want in a Park

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — There's a public meeting at the current Civic Center park / future Grand Ave. park tomorrow afternoon. It'll be at 5:30pm on the Court of Flags, which I believe is between Hill and Broadway (and, of course, between 1st and Temple). From the announcement:

Please join us at the Grand Avenue Civic Park on June 21st for the first in a series of community workshops. The program -- organized by the official Grand Avenue Park design team, led by Brenda Levin, Mark Rios and Aaron Paley -- will include a day's worth of outdoor activities:

11:30am - 1:30pm: Food stalls and walking tours of the park site

5:00pm - 5:30pm: Musical performance

5:30pm - 7:30pm: Public meeting

And if you're interested, they're doing a webcast at the Grand Intervention website. As usual, all I want in a park is open space to throw a frisbee around.

Somewhat related, the Daily News family of papers is running an odd little editorial that is aghast the large fountain might not survive the new plans. Hints of an agenda abound -- they call the Grand Avenue Project a "$1.8 billion boondoggle" and write that it's "little more than a scam to make developers rich and give county officials a spiffy new building, with no public benefit." I think the fountain's great when it's running, but I'm not about to let the Daily News lead a cry to save it.
