For Some, a Law; For Others, a Sign

I was walking down Hill street just now, from 6th to 5th. I watched as a Dunbar armored car driver went out of his way to point out to the driver of a normal passenger vehicle that there was no parking 4 - 7pm. This while his armored vehicle was half in a red zone, half in traffic directly below the "No Stopping 4-7" sign.

How is it that taxis can't stop at red curbs to pick people up but these armored cars and Fedex trucks do it every single day of the year. Are they ticketed? Maybe sometimes, but obviously not enough that they care.

Speaking of taxis, my girlfriend and I have noticed more attitude from downtown cabbies regarding downtown-only fares. Last night, my gf was told by the line of cabs lined up in front of 7th & Fig that they would not take her to our apartment a few blocks away. It was dark out and she was carrying a large box....so it was a safety problem as far as I'm concerned. Are cabbies permitted to simply refuse a fare? Either way, they're doing downtowners a disservice by refusing to serve...

Actually, I've seen a UPS truck get a ticket. So perhaps it is up to what that PE is feeling that day. If he/she's generous, they slide, otherwise, ticket time !

I've also seen moving vans get ticketed too in a permit parking street...I mean how the hell are you supposed to move in when you need a permit to park there for more than 2 hours ?

Sometimes I think PE just make it up as it goes along.
