DLANC Candidates: Ginny-Marie Case

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — In my post on the DLANC candidates I offered to run statements from any candidates who sent them to me. The first one I've received is from Ginny-Marie Case, a candidate for the Historic Downtown Resident seat. She has a website at http://www.ginnycase.com

There, it's out there. Well, actually - if you haven't noticed - it's all over the place. And, it's a public health problem. We don't have enough bathrooms, and the solution (about a hundred of them) is sitting in storage. If we had increased access to Automatic Public/Pay toilets, we would see less of people doing their "business" in the street. APTs (Toilets, not apartments) are well-maintained, can increase the sense of security for those who need to use the bathroom (like people who need to change baby diapers, those in wheelchairs, or, those who need 15 minutes of quality "sit-down" time in a restroom.

Dash After Dark?

Currently, service in Downtown ends at about 7 p.m., which is when things actually start to get fun around our house. I'd like to explore the possibility of a limited run that continues after dark to 9 or 10 p.m....and maybe even one day to 2 a.m. for all of our clubbing patrons. This bus could connect people to restaurants, grocery stores, Union Station, and the Metro stations.

Neighborhood Development

With so many units coming on line, we need to establish a support system that keeps people who want to make Downtown their home, here. Los Angeles, as a whole is a transient city - we have to work to keep all our neighbors - regardless of economic status.

I want the lights at 5th and Main on at the Rapid bus stop. I want more street lights, police officers walking the streets - building rapport with those who make the streets their home - so they are safe. All I say is "What do I need to do to make this happen?"

The development of a social network has already taken shape, and there's more to do. Working with rental housing managers, homeowners organizations, resident associations, I'd like to develop a "Welcome to the Downtown Neighborhood" brochure. The brochure should include all the things that will encourage and sustain neighborhood development.

That's just the start of the project. The neighborhood council will need to be able to reach to the new folks moving to the neighborhood to make sure they feel welcomed, and also work hard to keep all of our good neighbors! Everyone should enjoy the opportunity to have a safe place to sleep at night, and the opportunity to be the best person they can. We have to work together to make this happen.

My platform is short and sweet. Should I win your vote, and a couple more votes, and be seated on the neighborhood council, I intend to rely on your support. Most of the council's activities are dependent on volunteers. While I'm doing the fun stuff like meetings, I hope that you will join in the fun by volunteering to participate in one of the many boards, volunteer on election day, or after election day.

I'll do my part - keeping you informed. I am a pretty social person - I'm likely to host coffee hours, juice hours, meet-ups, walk arounds. As I type this up - the main reason I'm running for the Historic Core resident position - is because I want YOU, and YOU, and YOU more involved. What do I need to do to make this happen?
