From the Street to the Screen
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES —
I was watching the Notre Dame / Penn State game on NBC just a bit ago and during a network promo saw a shot that looked pretty familiar. Back in March I had taken the shot at left on 7th street (and blogged about it). You can see the actor midway up the building, being pulled back for a second take.
The shot on the right is the result on TV, in a promo for the new show Heroes. Just beforehand a set-up shot shows the Jewelry Theater Building.
I’ve seen plenty of Downtown in TV and film (one of my favorite hobbies is picking out shot locations in commercials), but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen the shoot itself and then seen the shot end up on screen.

I hear good things about Heroes. My good friend James Kyson Lee guest stars on it for 5 episodes, so I'm definitely going to check it out when it airs.
# on Sep.11.2006 AT 09:50 AMBack in April they were filming a scene for the Fox pilot series of "Standoff". Even though it was on a Saturday morning, the corner of 7th and Figueroa is the busiest in Downtown. Much traffic had to be diverted so that two dozen guys in SWAT uniforms can rush a car over and over again. Some of the traffic jams spilled onto the 110 Frwy. It took 9 hours to film a scene that lasted 2 minutes on screen, for a TV pilot which will probably be canceled soon anyway. My point is... before you rush to judgement on these hardworking film crews for affecting your quality of life. Think of the benefits to our local economy and how they boost this city's image. Way too often Los Angeles based movies and TV shows are being filmed in Toronto or Vancouver. This trend can't be good for us. I suggest we support our local industries by only watching movies and TV that were done in L.A. like "24", "Standoff", "Numbers", and "Little Miss Sunshine". Take that ,you money hungry Canadians.
