Los Angeles' entry to the 2006 World Leadership Awards has been shortlisted. I mentioned last month that Tom LaBonge had asked the Council to approve the funding, and now he gets to go to London and make their presentation on the morning of December 6th. They get 25 minutes to present, then 15 minutes of questions from the judges. At the ceremony that night they'll find out who won.

Our entry is in the "Town Planning" category. We're up against Silesia, Poland, and Lima, Peru. Silesia's City Centre project is a mixed-use development comprised of 240 housing units and 65,000 sq. m. (700,000 sq. ft.) of retail. Lima has an Ecological Park that I can't seem to find much about online.
