Pan American Lofts Revealed
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — This seems to be the week for buildings to be unveiled Downtown. The wooden covering came off the Mandel Lofts building this weekend and now today I biked by the Pan American Lofts to see that building's ground floor also being opened up.
It's going to take a bit for me to decide if I like that stark brown on peach color scheme. Definitely good to see construction clearing from both the Pan American and the sidewalk work across the street.

From what I understand, the peachy color is what the conservancy said was historically appropriate. I really liked the unpainted stucco with the black trim. I was wondering how close they needed to get, and at what point in history they choose to replicate. At one point the PanAm had goofy white and red awnings on all the windows.
# on Nov.07.2006 AT 10:32 PMOne would imagine that they were trying to replicate the look of the building when it was first constructed, but I'm not going to step out on that ledge. Who knows what the Conservancy's thinking?
# on Nov.08.2006 AT 08:37 AMBah! Why wouldn't they try to match the color of the brick exterior on the upper floors? There's a rendering on the Urban Pacific site that actually looks very nice. It has the bottom floor as matching the rest of the exterior with black awnings above the retail storefronts. I think someone at the Conservancy is colorblind - or using B&W photographs to determine what color the facade should be painted.
# on Nov.08.2006 AT 10:09 AMJust to clarify, the Los Angeles Conservancy has not been involved in any discussions or decision-making regarding the paint color choices at the Pan American Lofts.
# on Nov.10.2006 AT 10:38 AMAre there any other Pan American Loft buyers out there who are interested in discussing the paint job, or any other thoughts about the building and our future neighborhood, before the impending closings?

Hey Kids, The lights are on – and I'm finally home!!! Move-ins start this weekend.
