How Long Until Macy's Makes a Move?
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — The new Macy's signage is finally up at 7+Fig. As I wrote back in September, this is the first time Macy's has had two stores with its name on them Downtown, but not the first time they've owned two.
As Federated finalized its plans to acquire Robinsons-May back in July of 2005 it released a list of stores that would close. Neither Downtown store was on it. At the time I speculated that one of the two Downtown stores would become a specialty location -- perhaps a Home store.
But as of yet nothing has happened. How long will that inertia last?
Both stores need work. The Macy's Plaza location particularly looks outdated and run-down. You would figure that Macy's has some sort of a plan, but as of yet we here in Downtown haven't heard anything.

We'll just have to wait until we get more department stores. Have you heard the rumor that Target was going to buy the former Hamburger's Department Store (better known currently as the Broadway Trade Center)? Just a rumor, but I'd sure like to see that happen.

# on Jan.10.2007 AT 03:07 PMThe new owners of 7+Fig are wanting to reposition the retail there. They're wanting to bring in a Target, but I haven't heard anything about one on Broadway.
