Valentine's Dinner

The bf and I aren't too much into the Valentine's Day thing, but we did have a fun 10 PM dinner at Ebisu in Little Tokyo. The "dinner boat" is apparently meant to be taken literally -- it was more like a yacht of food coming our way. It was slightly embarrassing, actually because everyone was looking at us and our boat.

That being said, Ebisu is a really cool joint that's open till 1 AM most days. Not too wide of a selection in the way of sushi/fish, but I'd recommend it.

The wife to be and I almost forgot it was valentines but we did make it out to the Edison for a few drinks then to the Plum Tree Inn for sweet and pungent Shrimp.

celia and i walked up to engine co. no. 28 and had a fabulous meal.

My sweetie and I went to Ciudad for a veritable feast. The food and service were spectacular! Did anyone else catch the CalTrans building's heart window pattern? It was a nice touch.

I don't usually make a big deal of Valentine's either, but this year I wanted something special. I walked across Downtown to the Godiva store at 7+Fig for a heart with truffles... and then took Raquel to Cicada for a very elegant, relaxing and totally perfect dinner and some funky Sinatra-like live entertainment. She doesn't live Downtown, but is becoming pretty familiar with it since I've had my loft here - and she was blown away by the wonderful Art Deco theme of the restaurant. Next up is our 2 year dating anniversary in late March...another opportunity to enjoy a Downtown place... Cuidad, perhaps... or one of those restaurants inside the Biltmore. We have so many cool places here that it's hard to decide!

This Valentine's Day I ate dinner alone at Kendall's Braserie and drank two beers by myself.

I watched a musical at the Mark Taper Forum, "13" a story of teenage outsiders was really relevant for me, as I have no friends. My lonely night closes with a subway ride home as I dream of someday having someone to enjoy this city with.

As I got back to my car at Lincoln Heights Gold Line station, I noticed someone had kicked a huge dent in my driverside car door. You can still see the footprint of a shoe or boot, as the attacker slammed my vehicle with an angry kick. Such animosity from a stranger.

What kind of world do we live in with such random acts of violence and devalue property of others ?

All in all, not a bad night for the lonely heart. I had a great time walking, listening to the symphony of myself. Till next year.........

The wife and I had dinner at Royale on Wilshire (slightly east of downtown). The food was almost an afterthought because the space was a sight to behold. They had a great chocolate tasters dessert for two.

^Wilshire doesn't extend east of Downtown. I'm sure you meant west(?).

Did anyone go to r23 or e3rd? The local press made quite a deal of those places as they are recent openings (at least e3rd is), and there were a lot of ads for those places. Just curious.

I thought about going to the new steakhouse at e3rd, but the Arts District is notoriously known for lack of parking. And it's not very accessible by public transit on weekends, so I wouldn't be able to walk to the musical at the Taper.

I hope they fix these transportation problems before all the condo dwellers move in. The Arts District will get crowded.
