Toilet Watch: Move On to the Next One
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — Yes, it's been six months and the Pershing Square APT still isn't functional, but why wait to get going on the next toilet? This shot shows where another APT will be installed at 4th & Hill, next to the other side of the Pershing Square subway station.
Also falling into the in the ground but not yet in service category are three toilets on Skid Row. The one APT on 5th at San Julian is still Downtown's only working automated toilet.

This is a prime time spot for taggers. Hopefully someone planned for that. Fourth and Hill? Why not place one in south park. Near Staples.
# on Apr.19.2007 AT 11:35 PMI'm curious... Why would 4th & Hill be any more a spot for taggers than other parts of Downtown?
# on Apr.20.2007 AT 12:00 AMRecently workmen spray painted the legend APT SITE USA on the sidewalk in front of the steps leading into Pershing Square at 5th and Hill and again on the adjoining street. This is across the street from the existing nonfunctioning APT. I don't know if that indicates there are plans to set up another APT or if they changed their minds and moved the site one block north to 4th and Hill.
As for the existing APT, I believe that people will be willing to pay to use it rather than Lindley Place( aka Latrine Place) when it is in service. In the last few months I have watched many folks try to put money in the change slot and then witnessed their frustration with its lack of operation.
Perhaps Mayor Villaraigosa can name a municipal Toilet Czar to take responsibility and have the power to find a solution for this pressing problem.
# on Apr.20.2007 AT 08:36 AMI'm guessing the spray paint may mean the APT at Fifth and Hill needs a sewer connection which may explain why it's not yet in service.
# on Apr.20.2007 AT 11:03 AMCould you post an address for CBS/Decaux who are responsible for these toilets? Then maybe we can write some angry letters.
