Let's Make a Pizza
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES —
On behalf of Sunday's blogdowntown picnic, we (yes, in this case, "we") want to extend our thanks to Oscar Arce, the owner of Los Angeles Pizza Company who opened his kitchen just for our picnic and delivered 11 pies before heading out to Santa Barbara for Memorial Day.
Ed first got in touch with Oscar after finding a menu in his building lobby. He called up, asked some questions about the shop, forgot to order pizza, and then had to call back to get his delivery. He told me that he knew the pizza was going to be good from the second he saw it.
There seemed to be a consensus among those who attended on Sunday: the "Chavez Ravine" is a pizza to be reckoned with. Even the list of ingredients makes me hungry: red sauce, minced garlic, mozzarella, mushrooms, artichokes, goat cheese and pesto.
Here's where we get to the crazy part. Oscar's agreed to name a pizza after blogdowntown. Ed jokingly asked about the idea and Oscar took us up on it. So here's the question: What should we put on the blogdowntown pizza?
You can find the list of available ingredients on the menu. Dave, Ed and I will get together next week to take your suggestions and make a final decision.
And pick something good, ok? I'd hate to be the first blog with a pizza named after it and have it taste bad.

mamma mia!
# on May.30.2007 AT 10:41 PMsounds good, but i don't know. you strike me more as a thin crust (no offense) tomato sauce and cheese, the classic truth, nothing else, nothing extra.
# on May.31.2007 AT 12:14 AMSausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, bacon and roasted garlic.
The blogdowntown pizza is like Downtown itself: densely packed, spicy and loaded with interesting characters. It may seem intimidating at first, but once you get to know it, you'll begin to appreciate its diversity.
Okay, I'll drop the metaphor now. But think about it.

# on May.31.2007 AT 09:41 AMScott: The cheesier the metaphor the better -- as long as a good pizza comes out of it.
# on May.31.2007 AT 09:49 AMi think the pizza should reflect some quality from each of you. like one ingredient that you each identify with or that we the readers see you as....make sense??
i am kinda liking the spam thing too....
# on May.31.2007 AT 12:55 PMSpam would have been great on that pizza Rich Alossi brought to the picnic. Next time I will bring spam and tortillas
# on May.31.2007 AT 01:23 PMHad lunch there this afternoon. Great Place and Oscar is a cool guy. Cool to see a new place that delivers in DT. I like that Pizza / Argetinian cross over too.
# on May.31.2007 AT 02:25 PMI just ate there today and it was fantastic! I love that it's within walking distance of my apartment too.
My vote:
Pesto, no marinara. Mozzarella and goat cheese. Roasted garlic. Red onion. Tomatoes. Absolute perfection.

# on Jun.01.2007 AT 02:02 PMI would like to express what a great time I had with you all!!! I am not a blogger, but truly did meet some of the most interesting people at your picnic!!!!
Meeting Councilwoman Jan Perry was an honor as well.
Confidential to Ed Fuentes...thanks for being such a pal!!!
# on Jun.06.2007 AT 11:19 AMHow about caviar on top of government cheese? I think that would reflect downtown quite nicely! ;)
# on Jun.15.2007 AT 12:49 PMGood idea El Chavo, and we can split it. One goes on the westside of the pizza, the other on the eastside.
Debra, yer always welcomed.
# on Jun.15.2007 AT 08:21 PMi'm with you mr. meato, even i want meat on it.
# on Jun.19.2007 AT 07:54 PMI'd go with fresh basil, mushrooms, minced garlic, and black olives; fresh and simple. Pizza reflecting the fresh air the city is starting to rejoice itself in.
