DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES — A few months ago my wife and I went to The Edison for a drink. I didn’t realize they had a dress code, and I sported a T-Shirt, which lacked the collar required for entry. Luckily it was a bit of a slow night, and they let me slide. As soon as I saw the interior I knew I needed to arrange a private tour for some HDR photography.

A few weeks ago I attended the CPAB meeting, where I happened to meet the Assistant GM, Michael Geist. I asked him if it would be possible for me to come in and photograph and he said it wouldn’t be a problem.

Last week I went and photographed the amazingly restored boiler room and basement, and today I finally got around to uploading the photos. I think every building in Downtown should turn their old boiler rooms into fancy nightclubs, but without the dress code.

Man I have to unload here. I love this site and ever since I moved to DT some time ago I thought this was such a cool site. It has become so dull as of late. Stories were so cool and informative I really think this site has become a flickr blog, pictures after pictures, I mean how many pictures do we need of the grand concerts. Please stick to the cool history and DT breaking news you once made. I use to think the responses alone were cool, but I rarely see any responses anymore. Sorry but I had to.

And are you sure you don't have selective memory about blogdowntown? If this site is, as you claim, dull today, then it really was no less "dull" in the past. That's because Eric R. had to manage it all by himself, which made it harder to keep things fresh and lively. But now with 2 other bloggers helping him out, new entries are inserted more frequently and there are even more voices and interests expressed here than before.

But if things actually are dull right now, maybe it's because the downtown community, which this blog reflects, is in a lull at this moment.

I guess I'll go out on a limb and talk about the Edison. Great place, I always make it a point to take people not familiar with downtown there. I think it is a wounderful example of the creative venues that has taken root in downtown. Unlike many parts of L.A. (Sunset, Westside, etc.) downtown is so "new" people feel free to be creative with their buisness model. Here's to hoping that spirit of adventure remains as dt moves forward.

I'll echo Urban Bruin's comments - The Edison is truly a great place and an asset to the downtown community. Dave's amazing pictures finally did what no other photographer has done to date: capture the essence of this place that you get when visiting in person. It makes quite an impression when you're there, but up until now, no one has captured that essence on film, er, on a memory card.
