Ask Downtown: Cat Care for the Holidays

Cat Shots Eric Richardson

My friend Michael of Super Lucky Cat clothing emailed just now with a question that I thought was good to pass on to you pet owners in the audience. They’re heading out of town for Thanksgiving and need someone to come by their loft to feed their cats a couple times each day. The pet-sitting services he can find don’t service the 90013 zip code.

I know Downtown tends to be a dog-dominated place, but it seems there’s got to be a feline friendly service that serves our neighborhood. Any cat owners with a recommendation, or dog owners who know the place they use will go both ways?

Pictured is Samwise, the cat Kathy and I will be in charge of keeping happy over Thanksgiving while back in Michigan.

Eric: Please suggest to them to try Toni at "Pets Concierge" http://www.petsconcierge.net/

She took care of our kitties (we are in South Park) when we went to Michigan as well our 2week trip to Florida. We had her come by twice a day to feed & water and play the furkids. She's very good. She has an assistant too, whom we haven't met yet. I highly recommend Toni though. =)

I spoke to someone recently who boarded her pet at Bark Avenue, just south of downtown. Ruby stayed there recently, and I was very happy with the care they gave her.

We use Walk Fido for our dogs and I would have no problem if we needed a cat sitter in calling them for that.

But a cat alone for a couple of days, especially ours, might appreciate the solitude just the same...

Don: I was going to find and link to that post / photo that you're talking about (from two years ago, I think), but I can't even find it. Yep, it's the same cat. That shot was taken last Christmas. I'd say he's calmed down a little, but I only see him once or twice a year so I may not be the best person to say.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Turns out we have a friend who is going to house sit for us. I spoke with Toni and David at Walkfido and I'm sure I'll make use of both services in the future.
