Colorful 9th & Main Median Project Breaks Ground
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES —
The southern tip of Gallery Row should soon look a whole lot friendlier. The city broke ground today on a four-month project to replace the asphalt median at 9th and Main streets with a colorful replacement featuring trees and flowers. The triangular site, roughly 115 feet long and 30 feet wide, sits just south of Angelique Cafe in the confluence of Spring and Main streets. The design is intended to compliment Angelique while not taking away the eatery’s southern views.
The project adds more than just greenery to the intersection. Spherical lights will add a bit of nighttime vibrance to a spot that’s got potential to become an evening destination. On the corner of 9th and Main L’Angolo Cafe and Woodspoon have dinner hours, as does Tiara Cafe, located just east on 9th. The Fashion District BID will be picking up the electricity bill.
Comments
This going to be a pleasant to the eye addition to this intersection.
I also think it will help keep cars from heading north on Spring Street into on-coming traffic and perhaps keep vehicles from ending up on the sidewalk near Angelique.
I only wish it were big enough for a little dog park...
# on Jan.09.2008 AT 10:12 PMOh great. More dog turds. Let's not turn this place into Paris! Cats only, please.
# on Jan.09.2008 AT 10:20 PMWhen talking Downtown turds, odds are it could just as easily be human.
# on Jan.09.2008 AT 10:37 PMi think it interesting that someone else is posting comments on blogdowntown using my name (see comment above). jeez, do your homeworks - the real toilet doesn't use capital letters.
and while you're at it, get an imagination and find your own toilet to blog behind.
# on Jan.10.2008 AT 10:33 AMIt will certainly make walking down those streets more scenic. It will be a really nice addition.
One of the things I hear people at school from out-of-state complain about is a lack of greenery in LA.
Granted, we're in a desert, so any "greenery" ought to be native... although that's not particularly green.
# on Jan.10.2008 AT 12:37 PMIs this paid for by Quimby fees ? Well it's better than nothing, apparently.
# on Jan.10.2008 AT 12:44 PMWhitman: I believe it's actually coming from funds for streetscaping that were part of the bus lane changes when the Spring street contraflow lane was removed. It isn't Quimby (and isn't a "park").
# on Jan.10.2008 AT 12:48 PMNow I'm confused, is there going to be a public toilet there too?
# on Jan.10.2008 AT 11:56 PMI wish they made it a free parking lot for angelique cafe. Everytime I make it out of Irvine to go there among others, I end up having to walk 1 or 2 blocks, AND pay a meter.
Go Bruins!
# on Jan.14.2008 AT 06:13 PMSuburban Bruin, a meter is free parking Downtown.
