Misplaced Your Pads?

Are these your pads? Eric Richardson [Flickr]

If you’ve recently misplaced a set of Vaughn goalie pads I may have found them for you. You can go pick them up on Jackson street, where it deadends into the river. They look to be a little the worse for wear, so you may be better off just picking up some new equipment.

One never knows the sort of things that await when you start wandering around Downtown.

You know: What’s His Name, the urban affairs writer who lives out in the Valley and is SO down on Downtown. Well, next time he comes for a visit, he now knows where he can get some protection.

I expected Juanito to suggest they might belong to Charlie Chaplin. Jackson Street was the location for a few scenes from Modern Times as well as a few other Chaplin movies.

When we see the tramp trying to unscrew the hexagonal buttons on the bosses wifes blouse with his two giant wrenches he is chasing her up Jackson toward the river, right there. The gasometers, huge natural gas storage tanks, mentioned elsewhere here on BlogDowntown, were one block away at Center and Jackson.

Well, the next time any of us stop in at Casey’s Bar, let’s tip one back to ol’ Charles. His favorite cafe was right above, at street level.

Who could forget seeing him on the stage at the Chandler Pavilion, the motion picture audience rising to it’s feet, a few blocks from where he’d been first discovered over half a century before, where the glorious L.A. Times parking garage now stands.
