Wii Tournament Brings New Game to a Historic Theatre
DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES —
On Saturday Nintendo brought Super Smash Bros. Brawl to the Orpheum for a 256-fan tournament. blogdowntown Staff Photographer Dave Bullock dropped by to check out the sights. After the jump, more shots of the action.
Competitors were paired off at kiosks along the Orpheum's orchestra pit.
Each kiosk pitted two competitors in head-to-head play, with the winner moving on.
The Orpheum provided a grand backdrop, and again proved its versatility. Owner Steve Needleman continues to book an impressively eclectic schedule of events for his restored venue.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl comes out next month for the Wii.

Great to see the theatre get some use, and what an awesome idea!
How many people attended? Observers vs. participants?
# on Feb.21.2008 AT 01:04 PMI worked the event and I'd guess there were about 500-700 people throughout the day.
# on Feb.21.2008 AT 02:23 PMHow early did people show up? I'm just trying to get an idea of how early I should show up for the NY tournament.
