New Street Furniture: Bag Dispensers for Doggy Waste

A Dogipot bag dispenser installed on the sidewalk outside Premiere Towers.

A new addition to the Historic Core sidewalk scene: Dogipot bag dispensers for those pet owners who get out on the street and realize they just didn’t quite bring enough. The sign above this installation on Spring street, outside Premiere Towers, advertises the sidewalk as a “Pet Exercise Area.” I’m sure dog owners might find that to be a bit of false advertisement, though certainly they make do with what’s available.

A presentation on pet kiosks was before the DLANC Residential committee last month, but I’m not sure if this installation is connected to that or not. Update (6:30pm): Ginny says that they aren’t, so I’m still not sure who caused this one to be installed.

Ironically, there’s a no-dogs-allowed policy at Premiere Towers.

I like that stretch of Spring Street. It’s got nice lights, tree planters, flower beds, doggy bags…

Now how do I get some of that on Main?

The Residential Issues in partnership with the Downtown Dogwalkers are working on getting them placed downtown. What’s the big hold up? Not enough people to help do the work of getting the price quotes, identifying locations, and pulling together the proposal for DLANC.

Wanna help? Check out DLANC: DLANC Website and attend the next Residential Issues Committee…we will have a doggone good time. LOL! Okay, it’s early.

These were installed by the building owner of Premiere Towers, the Hayward Hotel, Spring Tower Lofts, City Lofts and Milano Lofts.

He has been responsible for a number of ‘little’ improvements on the 600 S. Spring block (planters, extra lights, etc) – all out of his own pocket.

When both of Barry Shy’s projects on this block are complete seven of the nine buildings on this block will be residential, most adaptive reuse.

Amazingly, it’s the only block on Spring south of Third that does not have a pedestrian crosswalk between cross streets…

2006? Sounds like plenty of time has passed for the bureaucrats to reverse themselves without their initial decision looking like a mistake…
