Times Takes a Familiar Look at Downtown Churches

The Times today runs a piece on new churches opening Downtown to serve a growing population. That would be an interesting story, were it not eerily similar to the one that ran in the Downtown News back in December.

Oddly, both pieces neglect to mention Mosaic, which holds two services (Sunday evenings, 5pm and 7pm) in the Mayan Theater in South Park.

On a personal note, church is just about the only thing I leave Downtown for. Kathy and I attend Bel Air Presbyterian, way out west of the 405.

I'm glad you mentioned Mozaic. It is a significant ommission on the part of both the DN and the Times. In the case of the Times, more so since they previously had a cover story about in their weekend magazine.

Anyone walking out of The Times building Thursday night into the Art Walk crowds has to realize how far off the mark this story really is.

Don't dismiss the influence of the entertainment industry on The Times and this piece given that industry's own motives to pooh-pooh residential Downtown development.

Remember, 'the studios' are multinational corporations and do not act out of generosity without alterer motives. In short, if they could be making it cheaper elsewhere for the same quality, they would.

Maybe if The Edison started letting people with Times IDs past the velvet rope there'd be less bitterness towards Downtown? It's LA, try less tweed.

The Times also spoke with Rabbi Moshe Greenwald who will be leading the first full service synagouge in Downtown in many decades. Rabbi Greenwald of the Downtown Jewish Community Center is hosting an event this Thursday at the Los Angeles Theatre in celebration of the the Holiday of Purim.
