The Barker Block lofts will soon become the official home of the Downtown Film Festival. According to founder Greg Ptacek, a 2-story loft is being transformed into festival offices. Warehouses around the development will house a mini cinema village complete with swanky screening room, a lounge featuring local musicians and space for panel discussions.

The Downtown Film Festival runs August 13-17 and features all different types of film. That’s exactly what Ptacek wanted, “There are many genre specific film festivals, but we wanted to include everyone.”

Organizers are planning to make good use of the Barker Block's rooftop space. The killer skyline views and comfy cabanas will be the setting for the festival's official invitation only kickoff party of May 17th, and will also be the setting for many pre-film parties and film festival sponsor events. Ptacek plans on throwing different parties every few weeks highlighting various sponsors in the festival lead-up.

Festival organizers are using the event as a way to spark discussion on many hot topic issues, including sustainability and urban environmentalism. Plans are underway for the five day event to conclude with a large scale panel discussion and a series of programs addressing green themes.

If you are interested in becoming a festival sponsor or submitting a film, applications are being accepted until June 1st. For more information, rules, or an application, log on to http://www.downtownfilmfestla.com.
