When I started blogdowntown in January of 2005, I knew this was a special community but had no idea what this site was going to become. Over the course of four years and thousands of stories I've been continually reminded that it's the community found here in Downtown that gives this place its life.

As Downtown continues to grow, I want to see blogdowntown continue to play the essential role of a forum where those who live and work here can learn about the neighborhood and exchange ideas. To do that, though, we need your help.

Community-Supported Journalism

In September 2008, we created verbdowntown as a project of Community Partners. We operate as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission of creating online resources that build community in Downtown Los Angeles.

Community Partners, which is based right by Union Station, provides a incubator for new non-profits like us. They provide accounting and legal support, and allow us to focus on delivering you news about Downtown.

 

What's Next

Along with allowing us to continue providing the kind of coverage that readers have come to expect from blogdowntown, your support will allow us to move forward with new ideas and projects such as:

  • Video — We believe that video is an important tool to help tell Downtown's story, but to offer you the content we need to go out and get the equipment.
  • Events — We want to build an events calendar that shows off all that's happening Downtown and keeps those who live and work in the neighborhood in the know about what's going on.
  • Neighborhoods — We want to make it easier for readers to explore their neighborhoods by adding new geographic features to blogdowntown.
  • History — We believe that the story of Downtown's past is vital to understanding its future. We want to pursue existing historical archives and expand our focus on making the story of our neighborhood more accessible to those who would explore it.
